Rivers Angels punished for terrible behaviour
Rivers Angels have been sanctioned by the Nigeria Women Football League after the club were found wanting for breach of the league's rules in the Super Six match against Bayelsa Queens, according to the official Twitter handle of the NWFL.
The Jewels of Rivers suffered a 1-0 defeat to the reigning champions, Bayelsa Queens courtesy of Glory Edet's third minute penalty kick at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba Delta State.
However, it was discovered after investigation that two Rivers Angels players in Players Jersey No. 12, Adjei Charlotte and Jersey No. 22, Hassan Sultans, assaulted the referees after the match.
As a result, the NWFL sanctioned Rivers Angels one million naira for breaching the Article 26.1 which gives the league body the power to impose sanction on teams that are caught in any form of intimidation on referees or any player.
The NWFL also suspended the two players in question for the 3rd Place match between Confluence Queens FC and Rivers Angels FC for bringing the game to disrepute.
